About Hansard Watch

Strengthening democracy, one debate at a time.

We are a non-partisan civic technology initiative building the tools Sri Lanka needs to follow Parliament with clarity and confidence.

Mission & Vision

Our Guiding Principles

Our Vision

Our vision is a Sri Lanka where every citizen can effortlessly watch the Hansard — where following parliamentary debates and decisions becomes a natural part of daily civic life. We imagine a public empowered with clarity, a Parliament held to the highest standards of openness, and a democracy made stronger because everyone can see how decisions are made.

Our Mission

Our mission is to leverage official Hansard records and modern technology to promote transparency and accountability in Sri Lankan governance. We turn lengthy, technical proceedings into readable summaries and searchable insights, ensuring citizens, journalists and researchers can engage with Parliament directly, not through intermediaries.

Our Story

The Journey to Hansard Watch

Hansard Watch was born from a simple yet powerful idea: democracy thrives when people are informed. In the wake of growing public demand for transparency, our founders — a group of technologists, researchers and policy enthusiasts — saw a critical gap between the work Parliament does and the public's ability to follow it.

They set out to build a platform that could decode the dense language of Parliament for everyone: a place where an official record meant for specialists becomes a civic tool for all.
